Finding Art
I was on the pier in Dunlaoire, Dublin, when I noticed a boat up in stocks in the process of being repainted. The old paint had been sanded down but some remained and it had a slightly surreal look to it, so naturally it had to be photographed ! The result was a photo which, to me, bears a strong resemblance to a rural landscape - at the top is the sky which meets the green hedgerow and then a plowed field etc. A client in Blackrock subsequently bought the image on disc and then showed it to me later, canvas printed up to 28"x18" and professionally framed. It looked really good.

Transformation
I photographed these Storage Tanks down in the Dublin Docks but even though the steps create a dynamic interaction, it still couldn't be described as an eye-catching picture.
However, by selecting 3 areas, and changing the color hue in each one, it becomes much more interesting in a 'modern art' sort of way. Photoshop CS3 was used in this case.

Don't Worry, Be Happy !
This is the sort of good-natured chap that makes a photoshoot go smoothly. He sat through half an hour of clicking and flashing without a frown. In a shoot like this one the white backround has to be lit separately to avoid shadows behind the subject.

Woodland Sprite
No need for fear . . . these creatures are benign woodland spirits who are more interested in flitting between sunlit glades and enjoying the changing seasons. They are, of course, totally wild and untameable.
This photo was enhanced by using fill-in flash at two stops down.

Seasonal Warning
I accidentally drove over this unfortunate party-goer last week in Terenure. He had been crossing the road in an apparent attempt to get to the Dodder River, when despite my best efforts at avoidance, he came in contact with the front, passenger side wheel. He was clearly inebriated at the time and his end is a salutary warning to us all this Season not to overindulge !

Architectural Photography
Dundrum Luas Bridge with perfect lighting and backround sky. The sense of steep perspective emphasizes the great height of the concrete columns.

Red Plate
A very simple image can have a strong visual effect ! I was struck by the unusual red hue of the plate and the beading effect along the edge. This is the type of shot which would make a good backround for a magazine article about cookery etc.

Child's Eye
This was taken in a hotel in Naas beside a large bay window. The light reminds me of the luminous
natural lighting used in paintings by the Dutch Masters. No added flash or reflectors were used. This
photo along with two other close-ups was put into a narrow horizontal gold frame.
